We took a moment to get to know the lady behind GoldfishKiss, Rebekah Steen
What was the idea behind the Goldfishkiss?
It started as a creative outlet to support my obsession with bikinis and the beach. But then I realized it could also be a great avenue to include tips, tricks and help to get people feeling their best when they are sporting a bikini. Pair that with some eye candy that gives followers a quick visual vacation and some inspiration, then...voila, you have what's now knows as Goldfish Kiss. The name is from my first bikini I ever owned when I was 2, the top was two goldfish kissing.
What is your favorite part of your job and who inspires you?
I absolutely LOVE what I do. That's the ultimate perk :) I am a freelance Graphic Designer, model/actress (if I am lucky at castings) and blogger...so there are a ton of perks to being self employed in general...especially in Hawaii (yup, impromptu surf sessions and beach lunch breaks).
For inspiration, oh man. My parents for sure, hey, it's in the genes. Then I have a folder I keep that's up to 100+ items in it - not organized whatsoever, and wish I knew who did everything in it: Herb Loubalin, Deanne Cheuk, Gilles Bensimon, Nino Munoz, Clark Little... there are so many. Then for writing, I have two writer pals, Lauren Elkins and Stacy Nikkila, who are so brilliant I get to be a better writer just by reading an email from them.
Do you have a motto or belief that dictates how you approach life?
Oh yeah, I've got a few - Treat people the way you would wanted to be treated. Challenge yourself and take risks as much as possible. Take care of your body, it's the only one you get. And for heaven's sake, smile and laugh as much as possible.
What do you look for in the ultimate bikini?
Oh man, that's a hard one - I'd say soft as butter fabric, a flattering/supportive fit, vibrant rich color, and something unique whether it's a different way of tying, a custom print, or an innovative little detail that makes the bikini feel special.
What is your favourite beach?
Hanalei Bay in Kauai. It's where me and my husband were married. I just paddle boarded across it this past weekend and am convinced there is no place like it on earth. But I am open to new travels to prove me wrong :)
Who is your style icon and why?
Elle Macpherson - She is just the quintessential beach babe bombshell. I've always thought she carried herself so well, has the best hair, looks amazing at any age, and her style is definitely beachy but effortless.
